What is Digital Media?

Digital media practice creates media within the digital context. It is interactive, can be globally distributed and should encourage participation from others. People in digital media work together from specialist areas such as business, technology, and media to bring and share skills. This programme mirrors the professional process of working in collaborative groups to develop media content such as for websites and the mobile phone with themes such as entertainment and education.

Digital media combines images, text, video, audio and animation, which are created in digital format. The aim is to produce communication content which is compelling and effective.

Classes take place on one evening and one weekday per week, and on occasional Saturdays for specialist workshops.

Our programme involves team work as well as individual academic work. Applicants should think about how they work in teams and the prospect of academic and research work.

This programme may enhance job opportunities in work areas such as instructional learning, business management, advertising and media communications. As there is focus on business planning and entrepreneurship, you may be able to develop opportunities in setting up a business.

There is also academic work which includes essay writing. You can, for example, agree an essay theme with your tutor for your digital media research based on your specialist area of interest.

Year 2

You will draw on previous experience to pitch your masters project and negotiate it with your tutors. the work can be individual or done in teams, and the options are various within the digital media brief.

Year 1 of this programme is a Postgraduate Diploma, followed in year 2 by the Masters Degree. While you work together on common project work, you will be assessed according to MA or MSc criteria.
