Starting Digital Media Business
In the past Digital Media was defined as the ability to create, manage and distribute digital content in practically any media. That definition has now expanded to accommodate virtually any activity involving digital content. Digital Media is therefore inherently about digital content. All media can be regarded as content and today most content can be rendered in digital form. New technology and changing consumer behaviour is leading to a revolution in the delivery of video, voice, music and gaming content to consumers.
This trend is already evident in the dissemination of video content where multinational players are making fee-based popular content available for download.
Technical advances in transport (wireless and wireline), compression, storage, security encryption and processing have provided the necessary “digital” infrastructure to do this. At the same time changes to the availability of the internet brought about by mobile devices has driven consumers to expect the content they want when and where they want it.
The Digital Media term now incorporates any company engaged in the creation of media content like film/TV, music, published media, digital games and e-learning content and its delivery (including broadcasters, mobile and telecom network operators, internet service providers, and the enabling technologies that support its manipulation/editing, storage and distribution).
