OICHE, EIRCAB AND SPICY DOG MEDIA DECLARED WINNERS OF THE ‘FINAL PITCH’ PRIZE AT THE MEDIA CUBE STARTUP BOOTCAMP

The winners of the Media Cube 2017 Boot-Camp are IADT Students;

Emily Shaw with “Oiche”;

Peter Kenny with “EirCab” and

Peter Kilmartin with ‘Spicy Dog Media’.

Fifteen participants took part in the 2017 Bootcamp this autumn from all programmes including Entrepreneurship, Film + TV, and Springboard. The participants worked on an interdisciplinary basis to develop ideas into real business opportunities. The 8- Day Bootcamp brings the participants through a rigorous process with industry mentors including John McMahon (board member of Enterprise Ireland), Raomal Perera (prolific entrepreneur and Professor of Entrepreneurship at INSEAD), Padraig Hyland (communications specialist) and Rohan Perera (founder of the Lean Disruptor).

Our Startup Boot-Camp is designed to provide an opportunity to staff and students to bring new ideas through a formal process to test their business plans. A competitive process, our three finalists represent the range and variety of entrepreneurial activity underway at the college. The Bootcamp shows the talent and potential at IADT. A word of special thanks to the judging panel which included some very seasoned business experts notably Conor O’Connor of Enterprise Equity Ltd, a venture capital company based at the Media Cube and Siobhan Gallagher, IADT lecturer in social entrepreneurship. The testimonials from boot camp participants speak to the success of the programme and we look forward to 2018” said Jessica Fuller, Head of the Directorate of Creativity, Innovation + Research.

 Liz Hickey, a masters student in Digital Entrepreneurship and participant of the Boot Camp praised IADT for providing students and staff with the opportunity to access such accomplished mentors. Ms Hickey commented “I have attended many start-up programmes but the standard and calibre of mentoring on this Boot Camp was outstanding. To be able to access a programme that is also run in the world famous graduate school of business INSEAD has been a real opportunity”

 Peter Kilmartin, a film and TV student and one of the winners of the business pitch with his company “Spicy Dog Media” thanked Boot Camp organisers for the advice and networks opened to him through the programme “In the past 2 weeks I have really benefitted from the advice and guidance of experience professionals and the number of contacts and networks I have been put in touch with has really given my business the boost it needed to drive it forward to the next level”

As Start-Up Boot Camp 2017 was oversubscribed, the Enterprise and Innovation Department will host a coffee morning for all of those budding entrepreneurs that were unable to get places and plans are afoot for another Boot-Camp in 2018! More on this to follow!
