IADT’s Media Cube companies win at IIA Awards

Two companies emerging from the Media Cube – IADT’s campus incubation centre which supports early stage companies working in the areas of digital media – picked up three awards at the Irish Internet Association (IIA) Net Visionary Awards on September 26th 2014. The awards recognise the achievements of start-ups and start-up support organisations in Ireland.

Kitman Labs, whose ‘Injury Profiler’ technology helps professional sports teams to manage their squads and minimise injury-related downtime, won “‘Rising Star’ start-up of the year” awards and “Most Interesting Internet Innovation” award.

WholeWorldBand, the app that allows music lovers to jam and record with big names from the music industry, won the “Best Mobile Service or App for Fast Moving People (B2C)”.

Another Media Cube company Beautifeye, which specialises in the analysis of images posted in social media, was also nominated for “Most Interesting Internet Innovation”. The Media Cube itself was nominated for the ‘Very Best Place to Be’ category at the awards.

Speaking at the IIA Awards, Dominic Mullan, IADT’s Innovation Manager, had this to say:

‘The most important factor in any incubation centre is the companies and teams that you have on board. We certainly have plenty of great entrepreneurs who, in 2014 alone, have raised in excess of €14m from investors in Ireland, the UK and the US. It is fantastic to think that the centre is home to 15 companies employing 79 people and selling technology services to clients across the globe.’

Media Cube companies collaborate extensively with staff and students on the IADT campus. Through Enterprise Ireland’s Innovation Voucher scheme, companies can access expertise in areas such as UI/UX design, usability and technical road-mapping, or participate in brainstorming workshops with staff and students. Cube companies offer internships and graduate employment opportunities, providing a real insight into the life of a start-up venture and maybe inspiring tomorrow’s entrepreneurs.
