The Media Cube was one of the buildings included in this year’s Open House Dublin Programme, a scheme that was established in 2006 by the Irish Architecture Foundation to showcase Irish buildings from different centuries of architectural quality to the public.
The Media Cube (affectionately known by locals as “The Blue Cube”) was designed by Murray O’Laoire Architects and was built in 2007. The design was intended to be a landmark for the new campus entrance from Kill Avenue to the Administration buildings of IADT. The intended colour was to be brick red, but blue was chosen after a local consultation, when the local fire brigade felt that the colour would confuse people looking for the fire station!
The Cube is now recognised as a unique 21st century building and offers a digital media incubation facility with 25 office units, a hotdesk area, an industrial research space and a publicly oriented gallery/boardroom.
The successful tours were on a first-come, first served basis from the 8-11October for Open House week. However, enquiries regarding digital business mentoring or viewing of the building and office space can be made by email to martin.hogan@iadt.ie or calling 353-1-214 4750.
